Loading Docks
Hi, in case you’re wondering why you are here, I am about to explain how to get your loading dock set up in your warehouses. Loading docks are used often in warehouse since there is constant truck loading and unloading.
In a loading zone you may see both dock boards and dock plates.
A dock board is meant to handle heavy items that can weight over thousands of pounds. They have curbs that prevent forklifts and other machinery that is being transported from falling off the ramp.
If you are moving lighter material then a dock board will do just fine.
When there is a larger gap to bridge you should get a yard ramp, it is larger and heavier duty.
Then you’ll need a dock leveler. These serve a similar purpose to the dock plates and dock board but instead the leveler stays attached to the dock.
The next thing you may need is a dock lift.
When it comes to safety, we want to inform you of everything you need to ensure ultimate safety.
To start wheel chock are a must have. These prevent trucks from rolling and people getting injured. A wheel chock is just a small addition that can make a big change.
We also suggest having warning lights. These give people a heads up when it is safe or not to travel.
Dock gates give you a protective barrier and can take heavy impact.
A trailer stabilizing jack will support a trailer that is loading and unloading.
The following tools can help you create a safe environment for your warehouse.
