Beginnings
A Plus Warehouse was founded in 1996 by Ed Stairman. Ed fell in love with materials handling at the age of 13, when he started working at Langley Materials Handling Co. His father, Melvin Stairman, was a partner at this company and taught Ed much of what he knows today! Despite going to school to be an electrical engineer, Ed could not resist the lure of the material handling industry and started working at Langley Materials Handling Co. full time shortly after his college graduation.
Taking the skills acquired from Langley Materials Handling Co. , Ed started A Plus Warehouse out of his basement in the noble Swampscott, Massachusetts. At this time, Ed had a 1-year-old baby and his wife stayed home to care for baby Carrie. Failure was not an option!
Rise of the Internet
A Plus Warehouse’s claim to fame is being one of the first companies to ever sell lockers online! The internet has drastically changed the world we live in, and A Plus Warehouse was able to immediately adapt to the changing times. The internet provides a way for customers to be in constant communication with the team as opposed to needing to wait for quarterly catalogs!
A Family Business
Materials handling is a Stairman family affair! Ed's daughters, Carrie and Izzy, are both graduates of the University of Massachusetts and love working together at the company.
