Cantilever Rack Video
Warehouse equipment isn’t always easy to understand but at a plus warehouse we try to make it as comprehensible as possible.
Cantilever racks, those are one of the more confusing products to figure out.
To start you need to do some simple calculations:
So, let’s say you have two uprights and a length of 10 ft your equation would look like this
the 5 you get from this calculation is the overhang.
you need to have equal overhang on either side because you want symmetry
so, divide that by two and you get 2 ½ feet of overhang on either side
once you understand the overhang and objects you will place on the rack the next step is to calculate capacity.
You must know what each arm can hold. Let’s say an arm can hold 1000 pounds, but you need 4000 pounds of capacity, that means you need 4 arms.
To make ordering the right cantilever rack simple, keep these questions in mind.
- Is it a single or double sided upright?
- What size am I working with?
- How many total arms do I need?
- How many arms per column?
- What’s the arm capacity?
Now that you have those basic questions the next thing is to understand starters and adders.
A starter is a complete unit that can stand alone, an adder cannot. Rather an adder shares a side with a prior unit.
One run of 5 shelving units requires 4 starters and one adder. If you have 3 runs of the five shelving units then you need 3 starters and 12 adders.
